R Zoppo Completes Work in Woonsocket, RI

P1 - 50' x 80' Platform

Recently, Carl Piedmont, Northeast Sales Manager for Poseidon Barge was contacted by R. Zoppo Corporation to provide Poseidon Sectional Barges to float a Manitowac 3900 crane.

R. Zoppo Corporation of Stoughton, MA, a Utility, Environmental, Marine & Heavy Construction Contractor for the New England States floated a Manitowac 3900 crane with 140 of boom using a clamshell bucket to clean the tow of the spillway on the upstream side of the Woonsocket Falls Dam on the Blackstone River in Woonsocket, RI.

Woonsocket was home to many saw mills, grist mills & textile mills all powered by water power from the Blackstone River beginning with Samuel Slater in 1793 who built the first successful Textile Mill in Woonsocket. The local economy was devastated by the depression and water power was eventually phased out. The Army Corp of Engineers took control of the city-owned dam and flood control levees in 2008. There were upgrades and maintenance requirements needed for the system. This paticular project included overhauling the four tainter gates, each 10.1′ high by 50′ in length.

In addition to the Manitowac 3900 crane, a telescopic boom lift, equipment storage container, air compressor and other miscellaneous construction equipment were floated on the 50′ x 80′ platform. Carl provided a quote for the project including mobilization costs from our distribution location in New Bedford, MA as well as a stability analysis provided by the Poseidon Engineering Staff. Carl was on site during the set up of the equipment, assisting in answering questions and directing workers in the unloading and set up process.

Thank you for R. Zoppo and all of our Poseidon Barge Customers for your business and your support!
