THE KENNETH BURNS MEMORIAL BRIDGE

CONSTRUCTION OF THE KENNETH BURNS MEMORIAL BRIDGE CONTINUES

Originally constructed in 1916 connecting the cities of Worcester & Shrewsbury, the Kenneth Burns Memorial Bridge spans Lake Quinsigamond on Route 9. In 2008 an analysis was completed determining that the bridge had deteriorated beyond the point of repair. Residence expressed concerns that the new bridge design would take into consideration the history of rowing and boating as well as being aesthetically pleasing.

The final design is a five-span deck arch bridge on route 9. The current bridge does not allow Sail boats to pass underneath. Locals will be pleased to know that the new bridge design will allow sail boats to pass underneath..
